About

Creed Arena is an action shooter being developed for XBOX 360. Fight other contestants with an arsenal of weapons and win the hearts of the crowd to become the most famous popular gladiator ever.

THEME

The game’s main theme revolves around the desire to become the most famous and loved gladiator of all time. Each challenge is fought in a stadium packed with thousands of spectators who cheer the contestants on. When players defeat an enemy or complete a goal, the crowds cheer and a counter in the HUD shows an increase in supporters. This positive feedback allows players to experience great satisfaction as they play the game.

Winning supporters has both short-term and long-term significance. As players win supporters, the “crowd rage” meter fills up. When the crowd rage meter is full, the player’s character begins a crowd-fueled rampage where he is faster, tougher and deals more damage for a short period of time. This is a powerful short-term reward and can give the player the boost required to tip the balance within a challenge.

At the end of each challenge, all supporters won during the round are added to the player’s total fan base. The player’s name will climb up the ranks on the popularity chart as each challenge is completed. The main goal of Creed Arena is to reach the top of this chart, and hence become the most popular gladiator.

GAMEPLAY

A range of different weapons are available, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. An example is the lightning gun, which can electrify multiple enemies at once, but which will only operate within a certain range. Players may switch between over-the-shoulder and top-down camera angles, depending on their play style and which weapon they are using.

The player fights in a tournament consisting of a series of challenges. The challenge may have a conventional goal, such as “First to 20 kills wins”. Many challenges have less conventional goals, such as a race to win 5000 supporters or a competition against opposing teams to get three kegs into your collection zone.

The pace of Creed Arena ranges from fast to frantic, often never relenting until the challenge is won or lost. Because of the short-range, fast paced nature of the game, many players prefer the top-down view most of the time and switch to over-the-shoulder view when they pick up a long-ranged weapon.

Many levels in Creed Arena are more fun with a team mate. Because of this, a co-op game mode is provided to allow two players to work together. This creates some interesting dynamics because they share the same short-term goal (to win the challenge for their team), yet they are also competing with each other in a race for ultimate popularity.

In solo games, a computer controlled team mate is often provided during challenges to assist the player.

Creed Arena is a top 20 finalist of the Dream Build Play 2009 and 2010 competitions. It is for sale on XBOX LIve Indie Games, and on PC through Strategy First.

SETTING
The game is based in a semi-futuristic environment. The stadiums contain a combination of dark futuristic architecture and classical / medieval statues and tapestries. Many of the contestants appear to come from places other than earth.
